  5. Mixing bass. This instrument can get muddy pretty fast. The mud generally happens in the to Hz range, so either leave that alone or cut just a little if the bass lacks definition. Rarely you should add frequencies below Hz but boost some between and Hz if the instrument sounds flat or thin.
  6. Jun 02,  · If you’re mixing a bass guitar and a kick drum with a lot of low end energy, the kick drum would likely be the best candidate to be present lower in the spectrum. So you would decide for your kick drum to take up the space below Hz, and the bass guitar would take up the space between and Hz.
  7. The bass balance at low volumes was pretty good, but at normal listening volumes it was overwhelming. The take-away point? If you’re mixing at lower volumes, don’t try to crank the bass up so you can hear it. When you listen at louder volumes it will be too loud. I’m not saying mix with really loud levels; just be careful.
  8. For a start, if there's more than one bass part (perhaps a bass guitar layered with a synth bass), I'd usually choose only one as the main low-end source, and high-pass filter the others around Hz, to avoid insidious phase-cancellation nasties between their long-waveform LF components, which would be pretty much unfixable with mix processing.
  9. Dec 24,  · I split my signal into an MXR bass di+ and a Line6 bass pod. The mxr gives me a clean modern signal and the bass pod gives me a retro tube growlly mid distorted sound. I mix the 2 back into a mon signal with a small rills 4 channel mixer and I run that into an amp, or a pa, or a mixer, or a recorder, etc.
